Intertextuality, Interdiscursivity, Intermediality: how to describe intra and intersemiotic interactions in the arts as communication

Abstract

В статье рассматриваются разного рода внутри- и межсемиотические взаимодействия в художественной коммуникации. В качестве материала используются драматургические произведения С. Беккета, Л. Андреева, В. Маяковского, Е. Шварца, Д. Данилова и др., театральные и киноинтерпретации пьес. Анализ референциальной области терминов «интертекстуальность», «интердискурсивость», «интермедиальность», используемых в научных работах для описания внутри- и межсемиотических взаимодействий, проводится с учетом того, что становится предметом изучения в каждом конкретном случае. В статье обосновывается использование термина «интермедиальность» в отношении театральных и кинопостановок пьес, включающих визуальные и текстовые цитаты для создания образности; уточняются контекстуальные возможности использования соположенных терминов «интертекстуальность» и «интердискурсивность». The article focuses on different types of intra and intersemiotic interactions that take place in the arts as communication. The aim of the research is to specify three notions used to describe intra and intersemiotic transformations, references and parallels, namely: intertextuality, interdiscursivity, intermediality. The author makes an attempt to define similar, as well as unique, characteristics of intertextual, interdiscursive and intermedia processes in the theatrical performance viewed as one more modelling system after a play as a secondary modelling system according to Yu. Lotman. The theoretical assumptions are illustrated with the help of plays written by Russian and British playwrights of the 20thand the 21st c. (S. Beckett, V. Mayakovskij, L. Andreev, E. Shwarts, D. Danilov, etc.), theatrical and cinematic performances based on these plays. The results prove that the notion of intermediality can be used in relation to theatrical discourse in which different semiotic systems (theatrical codes, media) are interconnected in order to enhance semantic projections and achieve desirable pragmatic and aesthetic effects. The notions of intertextuality and interdiscursivity have similar reference domains, intertextuality having a wide scope of meaning.
