Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic, non-infectious, inflammatory skin disease with periods of exacerbation and remission, with an immunological background. Patients suffering from psoriasis in the adult population are predisposed to the development of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome and its components, type 2 diabetes, and inflammatory bowel diseases. In almost a third of patients, the first symptoms of psoriasis begin in childhood. Early identification of risk factors for comorbidities or detecting them at an early stage of advancement can reduce the probability of their development in adulthood. Psoriasis can have a negative impact on mental health, quality of life and functioning in school life. The paper reviews the current state of knowledge about diseases associated with psoriasis in the pediatric population.
