Shenshu Dingchuan Decoction Enhances Clinical Benefits of Budesonide/Formoterol in Chronic Bronchial Asthma Patients

Abstract

We have evaluated the clinical benefits of Shenshu Dingchuan decoction in chronic bronchial asthma patients treated with budesonide or formoterol. To this end, chronic bronchial asthma patients were divided into two groups and treated with budesonide or formoterol alone (the control group) or budesonide or formoterol plus Shenshu Dingchuan decoction (the treatment group). Shenshu Dingchuan decoction combined with budesonide formoterol decreased traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, elevated forced expiratory volume in one second, forced vital capacity, and forced expiratory volume in one second/forced vital capacity levels, decreased fractional exhaust nitric oxide and total immunoglobulin E levels, and the elevated total effective rate after treatment. In conclusion, these observed changes reflect a marked clinical improvement in lung function.

期刊介绍： Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research is an international, interdisciplinary broad-based peer reviewed scientific journal for critical evaluation of research on chemistry, biology and therapeutic applications of nutraceuticals and functional foods. The major goal of this journal is to provide peer reviewed unbiased scientific data to the decision makers in the nutraceutical and food industry to help make informed choices about development of new products.
