Abstract
The religious project of priest Pavel Ostrovsky to create a “Gospel in manga” for teenagers of a certain subculture has caused widespread discussion in the Orthodox community about the legitimacy of using the artistic style of anime when presenting the events of Holy Scripture. The orthodox paradigm of the worldview based on the traditional, dogmatically constructed representation of the biblical plots of the Old and New Testament rejects the proposed form of narrative, conditioning it on the profanation of religious components in this type of preaching activity. The article presents the dynamics of the development of preaching in Orthodoxy, its multivariance and ability to adapt to changing external conditions. “Gospel in manga” represents an evolutionary form of the preaching word, reflecting the heterogeneity of religious consciousness among Orthodox believers.
