Methods: Alkaline flocculation assays were conducted up to 24 hours after samples were collected due to the nature of alkaline flocculation, which may occur spontaneously if samples are stored for too long. Flocculation was obtained using the three proposed bases: sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide and sodium carbonate. Results and conclusion: The efficiency tended to increase with increased pH. Sodium hydroxide as the base produced better results for pH values 11 and 12. Research implications: Possibility of dual use of microalgae, in bioremediation and, in doing so, in the production of biomass that can later be converted into biofuels.
