The Soviet of Commissars of the Baltic Fleet and Its Political Tasks in 1918

Abstract

The article examines the activities of the Soviet of Commissars of the Baltic Fleet (SCBF) within the framework of the political tasks that were assigned to it when it was created. In 1918, there was still no full-fl edged centralised ideological work in the Baltic until the appearance of the political departments of the Baltic Fleet in February 1919. Therefore, at that time, this task was partially performed by the SCBF. The article describes the general reasons and conditions for the creation of the SCBF in the context of the political situation in the Baltic Fleet in the spring of 1918. It also analyses the goals and objectives set by the SCBF in the framework of political work with the fl eet personnel and the results of the political activity itself. The article considers both previously published and new material on the issue under consideration.
