Languages in the Khanty-Mansiysk National Pedagogical College, 1950s

Abstract

t. Using the example of the National Pedagogical College, the study shows a signifi - cant change in the language situation in Khanty-Mansi Okrug— one of the northern districts of the RSFSR in the fi rst half of the 1950s. Even before the “Big Oil” era, the established educational and other social practices strengthened the position of Russian, weakening the position of the native languages of the peoples of the North. Among the emerging national intelligentsia, a nihilistic attitude towards their native language developed.
