Abstract

In this work, an investigation on the construction of block codes using the Infinite Impulse Response(IIR) filter is shown. This approach is capable of constructing short codes that are capable of achieving both the Singleton and Griesmer bounds. The codewords constructed from this are shown to not have a quasi-Cyclic structure and are shown to not to be cyclic. The investigation also shows that the codewords created from an IIR filter structure are valid by decoding using an existing iterative soft-decision decoder for block codes.
