Abstract

Recently, on behalf of study on channel model for frequency spectrum above 6 GHz up to 100 GHz, the “third generation” partnership project “3GPP Technical Recommendation” has defined three different models of multipath fading channels: EPA (Extended Pedestrian A), EVA (Extended Vehicular A), and ETU (Extended Typical Urban). In this paper, a broadband MIMO-CP-OFDM (Cyclic Prefix OFDM) communication system is simulated in the context of these multipath defined profiles, and for which various OFDM configurations in function of channel bandwidth are tested and evaluated using the MATLAB® environment. The simulation results are given to illustrate the performance of 2×2 MIMO-CP-OFDM. It has been observed that the performance improves when the number of subcarriers is large and degrades for broadband channels. Increasing the bandwidths of the MIMO-CP-OFDM channels increases their throughput capacities. Nevertheless, selectivity also increases, and performance will be more degraded as fading will be severe, and the increase in the number of OFDM carriers will remain unable to solve the problem.
