Abstract

In underwater passive listening, the high-resolution direction-finding methods which employ an eigendecomposition of the estimated covariance matrix, are likely to work satisfactorily, even at relatively low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) if the sensor parameters and the wavefront are well-known. In the field of active sonar, the observation time can be low and the asymptotic properties of the eigenstructure methods not verified.
