Model Fit Using Regression Equation-Personality of Engineering Students and their Academic Performance

Abstract

Personality indicates the behavioural and emotional characteristics of an individual and this paper helps to analyse whether the students' academic performance is strongly influenced by their personality based characteristics by conducting survey among the engineering students of different branch of study in Thanjavur District. The major study objectives are to identify the factors that are significant and to which extent the factors of personality and academic performance measures are correlated. Here, in this paper independent factors of personality which is considered to identify the relationship among demographic factors, independent factors and academic performance of students are Extroversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional stability and Openness. Data has been collected from engineering students among different branches with a sample size of 75 and can be examined with the help of statistical tools like descriptive analysis, regression & Chi-square test. The results reveal that the factors found that, independent factors of personality like conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness influences the academic performance of student.
