Abstract
The aim of this paper is to set forth certain salient points on Small Hydro Power (SHP) development and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and how the former can reap the benefits of the later. Gaundar (2x50kW), a proposed Mini Hydro Project (MHP) owned by Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA – A Government of Uttarakhand Agency). This is a run-of-river MHP structure anticipated on the right bank of Morkhanda stream near Gaundar village in Okhimath Block of district Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand). The paper briefly discusses the principle and concept of CDM and how it can help a project to be viable by the additional income generated from the CDM component.
