KİRALIK KONAK’IN ALAFRANGA KARAKTERİ SENİHA

Abstract

Kiralık Konak is Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu's first novel published in 1920. In this work, the author focuses on the Naim Efendi mansion and the effects of the "modernization" process, which started after the Tanzimat, on the Ottoman society and family; tradition-modern, intergenerational conflict, cultural degeneration, etc. Seniha is one of the most important figures in the novel reflecting these problems and cultural rupture. In this article, the aforementioned figure of Kiralık Konak has been analyzed in terms of its psychology, passions, aspirations and mentality change, and compared with the European types before it.
