Abstract
«From the bare body to the figuration of the nude... »
Painting the body means undressing it, putting it back to its naked form as from its origin, so as to invest it with new symbolical values. The naked body questions us with its physical presence and actively participates in the making of the artistic work, as it is a source of inspiration, a living material and medium. The figuration which invests this medium is also concerned with the representation of the nude. Indeed, certain figures of the nude painted on the body will be recurrently found. Besides, it would seem that this creative activity should be led by the contact of the skin and so, by the quest for interchange. Touching, which conveys desire, inspires representation. The erotic figures then come to inform painting. Conflict, confrontation establish this encounter between the virtual and the real. Is this still représentation, outdistanced from the spectator, or is it now some presentation with the living presence of the medium ? The experience of the performance expands this reflexive approach. However, even if the actual body may be considered as naked, some representation of nude painted on skin come as a veil and tranfigure this nakedness into a new body, a mutant body bringing the masucline and the feminine together.
