MONITORING OF SOIL QUALITY DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE HIGHWAY ON CORRIDOR X IN THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA

Abstract

Soil pollution during the road construction phase is mainly a consequence of multiple processes, but most often the main causes are carelessness, negligence and incidental situations of spillage of harmful substances. At the same time, pollution most often occurs in a relatively narrow zone of the construction site, as well as along access roads. For the purpose of completing the highway on the southern and south-eastern branch of Corridor X in the Republic of Serbia, an extensive program of protection and monitoring of various environmental parameters has been made, which, among other things, included soil quality. During the multi-year implementation, a large amount of results was collected on the basis of which it is possible to make certain analyses and conclusions regarding the organization of the contractor’s work, implementation of mitigation measures, as well as the consequences that occurred during the works.
