Abstract

Office balance, as applied to the toll telephone network, can be divided into two major divisions, those of through and terminal balance. Through balance concerns the connection of one 4-wire intertoll trunk with another, switched on a 2-wire basis. Terminal balance is required for the interconnection of an intertoll trunk with a toll connecting trunk to the subscriber's central office. Because of the extent of private networks presently being engineered, it is necessary to balance the interconnection of calls within these networks.
