Abstract
This paper deals with the development of printed travelling wave antenna composed of interdigital capacitor structure. The proposed antenna which is developed using microstrip technology is intended to operate at a center frequency of 2.35GHz for wireless communication application. A structure of interdigital capacitor is implemented as patch radiator and printed on a grounded Roger RT/Duroid® 6010 dielectric substrate with the dielectric constant of 10.9 and the thickness of 0.127mm. The overall antenna structure is constructed from 24 cells of interdigital capacitor in which each unit cell is designed to resonate at the desired operating frequency. Since the proposed antenna is a travelling wave antenna, hence it is fed from one of its ports by using a microstrip transmission line, while another port is terminated by a matched load. From the characterization result, it demonstrates that the realized antenna prototype which requires the dimension of 236.4mm (length) × 21.15mm (width) has a resonant frequency of 2.29GHz with the bandwidth, gain and beamwidth of 30MHz, -17.49dBi and 120°, respectively.
