Abstract
Separate of a high degree of automation in modern factories or production facilities there is a huge demand of addition information to reduce wear or to avoid idle time. Wireless sensor networks provide a more suitable method to gather information in comparison to conventional sensor solutions. Within this contribution requirements for wireless sensor systems will be addressed considering the research field of fabrication planning and material handling because of a significant contribution of these research fields for a more efficient and more effective production in the future. This paper handles an approach to define requirements for wireless sensor technologies in conveying and logistics based on use cases, information gaps and challenges of conveying technologies and production systems.
