Abstract
Conventional global maximum power point tracking (GMPPT) control for photovoltaic (PV) systems shows certain limitations in terms of convergence speed and tracking accuracy, resulting from the sophisticated searching mechanism to ensure the operation under partial shading conditions (PSCs). To address these issues, in this paper, a high-performance GMPPT (HP-GMPPT) method is proposed with a modified explicit PV model to express the global maximum power point directly, thus, effectively reducing the invalid searching in conventional solutions. Notably, in this paper, the requirement for irradiance measurement in the conventional explicit PV model is eliminated after sufficient modification by integrating a low-cost irradiance estimation mechanism. It is cost-effective for the existing PV systems. To validate the proposed HP-GMPPT method, simulation evaluations and comparisons are carried out under various PSC scenarios.
