Genesis of SOFTEX 2000 project

Abstract

This article describes the efforts of the Brazilian Software industry to export its products. The companies reunited in its category's association, the ASSESPRO - Association of the Brazilian Companies of Software and Services, motivated by the competition with foreign enterprises in the home market, got organized to spread internationally its products, participating in major computing events. The first one of them, was COMDEX/Fall 90 in Las Vegas - USA. In Brazil this work occurred at the same time as discussions about the importance of software in a major government center for developing of software for the telecommunications sector: the CPqD, TELEBRAS` research center. These events culminated in the involvement of the Brazilian government to support the companies in its efforts to export its products, and the creation of the SOFTEX 2000 project.
