Abstract

We propose a technique for inverting the lidar equation that does not require additional non-lidar data and can be used in stratified atmosphere when the lidar response contains an extremum. The algorithm for volume extinction coefficient retrieving is checked with model lidar signals. A numerical experiment shows that the relative error of the inversion profile of the extinction coefficient is comparable to that due to noise fluctuations in the model profile of range-normalized lidar signal.
