Abstract
Abstract Virtual Reality (VR) is usually related to entertainment experiences. However, different efforts have taken advantage of their abilities, to prove that VR is considered a strategy and method for the treatment of emotions, representing an effective psychological intervention. Through the development of interactive computer applications, users have experienced the management of their emotions, feelings and reactions, to learn to overcome them. In relation to this, it has sought to increase user access to therapies. The purpose of this article is to present a study of the literature on the use of VR in psychotherapy, considering the empty chair technique as part of Gestalt Therapy, in overcoming grief and other human emotions. For this, a systematic review of the literature was carried out where several articles were identified and analyzed, which included some proposal related to this line of study. The findings motivate the need to continue developing new applications that can support mental and emotional health professionals.
