Abstract
Human parechoviruses are an important cause of meningo-encephalitis in infants younger than 3 months. Clinical presentation include fever, rash, irritability, lethargy, seizures, diarrhea and feeding difficulties. The outcome can be variable and some patients may require intensive care. Usually there are no important alterations in blood test results. The absence of CSF pleocytosis is common in HPeV infections and the diagnosis is confirmed by molecular tests. Genotype 3 of HPeV is known to have particular neurotropism. Some infants develop serious neurodevelopmental sequelae. In our case series there were no severe cases of HPeV and the MRI imaging as well as short-term neurological assessment showed no abnormalities.
