Abstract
Nowadays, offshore wind farms (OWFs) have been increasingly developed in many countries. This paper presents the comparative dynamic-stability evaluation of a large-scale OWF integrated into an onshore multi-machine power system via an HVDC link based on line-commutated converters (LCCs) and a high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) line. Both eigenvalue analysis based on a linearized model and time-domain simulations based on a nonlinear model of the studied system are carried out to compare the damping characteristics contributed by the LCC-HVDC link and the HVAC line. The comparative simulation results show that the LCC-HVDC link can provide better damping characteristics to stabilize the studied large-scale OWF integrated into an onshore multi-machine power system under disturbance conditions, particularly in cases of long-distance.
