Wired radio broadcasting technology in Britain: The early years

Abstract

The redistribution of public radio broadcasts through private cable networks was an important business in Britain from the late 1920s until after the Second World War. This paper presents some of the key stages in the development and use of this technology in Britain during this period. The contribution of P.P.Eckersley, former chief engineer of the BBC and one of the founders of the rediffusion company is highlighted.
