Abstract

In this paper simple in realization efficient imaging solution based on line-scan (1-D) camera and PC (with low-cost hardware) for euro coin recognition and validation has been proposed and investigated. Various approaches for image-based coin validation have been discussed. In proposed solution a 128-pixel linear image sensor of line scan camera with intelligent coin detection algorithm allows achieving real time, accurate results with reasonable speed. This method has been implemented and tested using Matlab on real euro coins. The presented results show, that it is reasonable to use line scan camera in coin validation technology.
