Abstract

Abstract: Malaysian city rail transits are the sustainable model for the higher environmental, economic, and social development of the country. Several theories (Theory of planned behavior, Social cognitive theory, socio-environment theory) have highlighted the factors in different countries i.e. quality services-satisfaction, attitude, social, health, and environmental norms which positively affect the usage behaviors of the public, but some necessary factors always remain constant in theories which highly impact on the behaviors and cannot be ignored like as demographic variables (age, gender, income, ethnicity) and personality traits for increasing the city rail transit usage. The provision of a more in-depth review of the literature helps us to understand that whether the demographic variables affect the usage behaviors in cities of Malaysia. In this study, researchers looked at 16 of the total 9861 studies found for the purpose. This literature review revealed the gender and age of travelers of the influence on their perception of using public transport in urban regions. This study provides valuable insights not only to understand the behaviors of the public for increasing usage of the city rail transits in Malaysia.
