The need for the formation of educational autonomy is conditioned by the requirements of the modern world, the paradigm of “lifelong learning”, the ability of a modern person to “learn”, readiness for self-study. The main objectives of reforming the system of higher education are revealed. The article comprehensively examines the essence of the competence-based approach and presents a number of problems associated with its implementation in the educational process. The article is based on the online course “English for law students”, developed by the authors on the Moodle platform. Abstract
