Abstract
This article on "multilingual communication in interactions by whatsApp" will try to present and describe the mechanisms of code switching in the whatsApp messages of multilingual individuals in a Burundian context. We try to show the nature of these messages mediated by smartphones and their functions. After analysis, we discovered a special case. Generally, there are hybridizations by partial confixation, that is to say, in cases where an allogeneic prefix or suffix is joined to an autonomous indigenous lexical unit. In the case of Kirundi and French, it is quite the opposite because it is the indigenous prefixes and suffixes that are attached to the foreign lexical units.
