Security during Pandemic: Objectives of the the Collective Security Treaty Organization in 2020

Abstract

The article examines the activities of the CSTO aimed at fighting with new challenges and threats. The author pays special attention to the study of the results and plans of the "Illegal" and "PROXY" operations, analyzes measures to strengthen the combat potential of the Russian air base Kant, located in the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan, in order to effectively counter terrorism in Central Asia. Besides, the international cooperation of the CSTO during a pandemic is studied. It is concluded that the Organization will keep its significance in the post-Soviet space after the end of the coronavirus crisis, as an instrument for ensuring Eurasian security. At the same time, the priority of the CSTO activity will remain the response to the new challenges and threats.
