Implementing pollution prevention in DoD system acquisition programs-what more is needed

Abstract

In implementing a pollution prevention program, the assumptions made concerning the starting point for analysis have a major impact on the scope of pollution prevention opportunities discovered and on the results achieved. In order to assess what impact this may have on integrating pollution prevention into the DoD systems acquisition process, a number case studies at US aerospace companies were undertaken. Here, three pollution prevention paradigms currently used in the US aerospace industry are described and the implications for DoD system acquisition policy are presented.<>
