Effects Of Radiosonde Type On Satellite-derived Humidities

Abstract

Instrument differences between radiosonde types as well as errors in individual radiosondes have been the subject of many investigations. The influence that these errors and or differences have on simulated satellite-measured radiances and the resultant derived humidities is examined. The difficulty posed by using a worldwide radiosonde data base to calibrate/validate satellite water vapor sounders is discussed.
