Abstract

Combining knowledge acquired in the previous chapters, this chapter centres on the protagonists’ indigenous experiences as they negotiate their life and duties through this lens. To indicate the relevance of the arguments portrayed through this reading of the novels, it draws on a range of critical works written by Mapuche and Chilean intellectuals. As demonstrated, their work is concerned with the place, or lack thereof, of the Mapuche people and culture in the period contemporary to when Valdivieso and Frías are writing.
