So a higher(fourth)order compact finite difference method has been used for optical waveguide modeling purpose incorporating modal index concept for the study of refractive index profile for a particular rib wave guide structure. Obtained results for normalized indices and modal indices are compared with other methods to verify the applicability of our scheme. Abstract
