Abstract
In high-speed, high-performance motor control systems, a common motor shaft angular position sensor is a resolver. A circuit is described that simulates the behavior of a resolver attached to a rotating electrical machine turning at constant speed. The circuit simulates the resolver in the sense that it has the same outputs and utilizes the same inputs. The machine speed being simulated is programmable using two push button switches, one to increase the speed and the other to decrease the speed. The circuit is a mixed analog and digital circuit that contains a complex programmable logic device (CPLD), flash memory chips, a digital to analog converter and operational amplifiers. The design description and test results for this circuit are given.
