Abstract
The performance of a pulse-width-modulated (PWM)-controlled thyristor rectifier operating at unity fundamental input power factor in a PWM current source gate turn-off (GTO) thyristor invertor system for high-speed high-horsepower induction motor drive is analyzed and determined. With the application of an energy rebound circuit in the DC link of the inverter for PWM control of the thyristor rectifier, a PWM controlled current source GTO inverter has been proposed. A prototype unit is used to drive an eight-pole, 400 Hz, 5.5-kW three-phase induction motor. The performance of the DC voltage control of the PWM-controlled thyristor rectifier is investigated for various values of the number of pulses for a half-period of the supply frequency.<>
