Abstract

Libraries signify one of the service businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the beginning of the pandemic, information about library closure or restriction almost happened in all parts of the world, including Indonesia. Then, during the reopening of library services, management needs to consider aspects related to occupational health and safety (OHS) as an effort to build a library environment that is safe from COVID-19, both for librarians and users. This study aims to describe an international standard that can be used by library management as guidance in managing a safe work environment during a pandemic, namely ISO/PAS 45005:2020. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research design. The data collection method used literature studies, interviews, and online observations. Descriptive data analysis using qualitative data analysis techniques with a narrative research analysis approach. SWOT analysis is used to analyze data related to the strategy of implementing ISO/PAS 45005 in libraries. The trustworthiness of this research uses credibility criteria, with respondent validation and triangulation techniques. Results of this study show that ISO/PAS 45005:2020 provides specific and comprehensive guidance for managing a safe library environment during a pandemic. For optimal implementation, management should identify strategic steps based on a SWOT analysis of internal and external issues to produce the right formulation of the implementation strategy. The implementation of this standard can be integrated with standards related to the occupational health and safety management system based on ISO 45001, and for risk management, it can be integrated with ISO 31000. In general, this standard complements the guidelines and regulations set by the government regarding efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at workplaces.
