Abstract
The study was conducted to determine whether the structured teaching program made any significant difference in improving the level of knowledge and self-care management of Type II Diabetes Mellitus among alcoholic males with Type II Diabetes Mellitus in a selected community area at Tiruppur. A quasi-experimental pre-test, post-test control group design was used. The data were collected from 60 alcoholic males with Type II Diabetes Mellitus of which 30 were in experimental group and 30 in control group selected by using purposive sampling technique. The total duration of the study was 30 days. Structured interview schedule, Questionnaire and rating scale were used as tools for this study. The major findings of the study show that in the experimental group, mean score percentage on overall levels of knowledge before intervention was found to be 30.3%, after intervention there was a drastic improvement in the mean score to 87.68%. In control group, the mean score percentage on overall levels of knowledge before intervention was found to be 29.86% and after 30 days there was no much change in the mean score percentage (29.41%). In an experimental group, mean score percentage on overall level of self-care management before intervention was found to be 25.21%. However, after intervention there was a drastic improvement 90.38% noticed in the mean score percentage. In control group, the mean score percentage on overall level of self- care management before intervention was found to be 24.33% and after intervention there was no much change in the mean score percentage 23.66%.
