Abstract

Context : The toluidine blue dye is used in the forensic sexological examination for the identification and documentation of lacerations resulting from sexual violence, the dye marks nucleated squamous cells in the deeper layers of the skin exposed by superficial lacerations and helps to increase the visualization of the trauma. Objective : To determine if toluidine blue detects in a better way the lesions present in the vulvar region of women who suffered sexual violence in comparison with direct simple observation. Methods : The study is an observational, transversal and analytical investigation. the characteristics of the study, this was done to 48 patients, who accepted the informed consent, in which the application of toluidine blue was performed. Results : The application of toluidine blue in comparison with direct simple observation has a sensitivity of 75%, specificity of 47.9%, positive predictive value: 59% and a negative predictive value of 65.7%. Conclusion: Toluidine blue better detects genital lesions in forensic sexological examination that could not be determined with simple direct observation, so it is a useful tool, easily accessible, which should be used frequently in cases of sexual violence.
