IMPORTANCE OF IMMUNONUTRITION IN BARIATRIC SURGERY

Abstract

Obesity is considered one of the most prevalent health problems. According to the World Health Organization (WHO). A bibliographic, descriptive and qualitative study was carried out, having as a source of research, thesis, dissertations and scientific articles searched on the internet, indexed in the following databases: LILACS, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, Portal de Periódicos CAPES and SCIELO. From this literature review, it was possible to verify that immunonutrition has been extensively used as a resource for nutritional therapy of patients undergoing bariatric surgery, it was noted that preoperative nutritional intervention that includes nutritional supplementation enriched with immunonutrients in an isolated or combined way can be an alternative to reduce inflammation, improve immunity and reduce infectious complications and pain, as well as favoring wound healing in the postoperative period.
