Teaching Methods and Teacher Behaviors

Abstract

This chapter provides a justification for establishing new teaching methods associated with technology-based music instruction (TBMI). It contains descriptions of personal dispositions that are often found, or are desirable, in teachers in this setting, including a willingness to experiment and ask for help; a focus on musical fundamentals; a desire to teach non-traditional music students; a deep knowledge, or willingness to acquire this knowledge, of software and hardware; and an interest in fostering creativity. The chapter contains descriptions of the physical layouts of some example TBMI classrooms and analyses of their strengths and weaknesses. It also includes a discussion of pacing and lesson design in TBMI.
