Abstract
E-learning via the Internet has boosted the use of software tools that lent structure and management for online courses. These tools, called Course Management Systems (CMSs), feature educators with easy communication to the students, the ability to track students' progress, and a means for secure online course content presentation. One free and open-source CMS that facilitates learning anytime anywhere is the Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment (MOODLE). MOODLE's users can write new features, fix bugs, and improve its performance. It is built on a sound educational philosophy, and has a huge community that supports and develops it. Moreover, it has the ability to create a multilanguage content as it can support more than 70 languages, hence students from different countries. MOODLE seems a perfect tool for online e-learning of holy Quran, which is a good source of religious knowledge, especially in non-Muslim countries. In this paper, we propose establishing a MOODLE-based Quran e-University (MOQEU) in Alma Dinah Almunawwarh, the capital of the first Islamic state. MOQEU aims at providing both Muslims and non-Muslims with Quranic courses including Tajweed, Tafseer, memorization, and proper recitation, which comes not only with proper pronunciation and etiquette, but also by understanding its real meaning.
