Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of social capital and citizen Participation in the resident community on social sustainability. To this end, data were collected from 103 residents of Seonggwak Village, Jung-gu, Seoul, and analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 program. Frequency analysis and descriptive statistical analysis were performed as analysis methods, and correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted to determine the relationship between the three main variables. The main research results are as follows. First, as a result of examining the correlation between social capital, Citizen Participation, and social sustainability of the resident community, all three variables showed a significant positive (+) correlation. Second, it was found that the higher the trust, network, and reciprocal norms of social capital of the resident community, and the higher the information-providing participation in Citizen Participation, the more significant the impact was on social sustainability. Based on these results, in order to increase the social sustainability of the resident community, the social capital of the resident community was built and improvement directions for vitalizing Citizen Participation were suggested. The significance of this study is that it analyzed the characteristics of factors affecting sustainable communities.
