Abstract
This paper describes a new methodology to identify conflicts between power flow control devices that can cause New-ton's method convergence problems. The proposed technique is based on applying the principal component analysis (PCA) to the control sensitivity matrix. This matrix directly relates the control mismatch functions and control variables. The results presented for small-scale and large-scale power systems were compared to the analysis of the eigenvalues of the power flow Jacobian matrix, indicating the proposed methodology effectiveness.
