Abstract

Because the 3D model is closer to the real product, 3D Model-based design not only speeds up the product design process, but also improves the readability of product information. 3D Model-based Design will be a trend of the development. It is necessary to add all kinds of product information, including design knowledge, into 3D models to enrich 3D models. In this paper we give the background of 3D model based knowledge engineering, the definition and categories of 3D model knowledge, technologies which will be used, and a technical architecture.
