Abstract

In this paper, we analyze the HRWS and GMTI performances of sparse arrays mounted on a space-based radar platform. Imaging STAP (ISTAP) is employed for clutter cancellation and estimation of motion parameters, while multichannel signal reconstruction is done in the MMSE sense. It is demonstrated that sparse arrays lead to improved GMTI, without the need for additional hardware on the spacecraft. A minimum redundant array provides the best compromise of HRWS/GMTI performances.
