Abstract

Over 40 years after the social changes that led to the need of separating education into formal, non-formal and informal the concepts are still not consensual among the authors who work on them. In addition to this, social and technological development imposes new collective and individual needs implying the inevitability of revising such concepts and think the new role of education in today’s society. We conclude that the concepts are limited but that a higher understanding of the different meanings they contain can favor the search for new models of educational practices analysis and organization.
