An accident at a lithuanian fertilizer plant

Abstract

On March 20, 1989 a tank started to leak spilling large quantities of ammonia which evaporated and caught fire. A layer of warm, unstable ammonia that had accumulated at the bottom of the tank exploded because of the hydrostatic pressure.
