Abstract

A straight lines detection and parameters estimation method for contour images was proposed. The algorithm is based on the property of straight lines as curves with zero curvature, which is the same as equality to zero of the second derivative of the curve function at each contour point. The second derivative at each contour pixel was estimated in sliding mode by convolving vector of pixel coordinates with finite length using a special mask. This algorithm also finds the endpoints of the segment. The line parameters were computed by the method of least squares. The algorithm has linear complexity, multiple of number of contour pixels on the binary image.
