Abstract

Electric Vehicle charging station (Smart Park) when modified as a shunt active power filter(SAF) effectively compensates for active, reactive and harmonic power requirements of the load. Analysis of the Smart Park SAF system equipped at a dc metro traction substation is done here. Smart Park shunt active filter provides the compensation by using Icosφ algorithm. Simulations have been performed in matlab for 750 V DC metro traction nonlinear load. The simulation results substantiate the feasibility of grid support by Smart Park for a metro rail system.
